Policy Letter/ Application Form

Thank you for your interest in the Jeffersonville High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program. The Jeffersonville High School Air Force JROTC program is a citizenship course designed to “develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” Curriculum consists Aerospace Studies, Leadership Principles and Health and Wellness. Aerospace Studies introduces the student to Aerospace History, Aviation Theory, Space Sciences, and Cultural Awareness Studies. Leadership courses are designed to provide students leadership, management, discipline, and life skills. Health and Wellness will involve the student in Physical Fitness Training (PT) once a week. In addition, students choosing to join the military services after graduation may join at a higher pay grade with a certificate of completion from the JROTC instructor. Students may also compete for college ROTC scholarships.

Leadership skills are taught within the context of a military structure. Students electing to participate in the course are required, by contract with the United States Air Force and Jeffersonville High School, to wear a US Air Force JROTC uniform once a week and maintain military personal appearance standards. Uniform items are provided at no cost to the student. Students gain leadership skills through their participation in unit activities. Activities may include competition drill and color guard teams, orienteering teams, model rocket/airplane clubs, flight simulator training, academic honor societies, school and community support activities, staff planning, and “curriculum-in-action” field trips.

Students desiring to participate in the Jeffersonville High School JROTC program coordinate with their school counselor and complete an application form (attached). Applicants are afforded the opportunity to interview with unit instructors to receive detailed information on course requirements and activities. Unit instructors will forward completed and recommended students to the appropriate High School counselor for course scheduling.
